What THEY Say----------------------------

August, 2005.

I have been entertained by the Johnny Mac Trio on several occasions via socials of the, "Mission Tennis Club" in Kelowna, British Columbia. The music, instrumental and vocal, is produced by John MacCormack lead guitar and bass, Linda MacCormack Synthesizer-percussion and keyboards and Johnny Vesterinen (Johnny V. for short) bass, guitar, and harmonica.

While most bands try to vibrate straight to your brain and destroy your hearing mechanism in the process, this group remains on the outside of your eardrums. Conversation is possible but you'd rather forgo that so as not to miss any of the music. All three musicians meet in vocals alternating with instrumental between numbers and within them. The repertoire includes Country, Bossanova, South American, Rock, Jive, Tango, Rumba, Samba and whatever is fashionable. Johnny V. is a songwriter and I assume, puts some of his work into the repertoire. John MacCormack does some comedy at the end of some pieces and during performances may banter around with fellow string player Johnny V. for the sheer joy of making music whenever the number warrants it. It's difficult to keep your feet still when they play. If you don't like dancing or are a bit shy at first, just be carried away by the rhythms and sweet harmonics of instrumental numbers alternating with vocals. When John and Johnny V. alternate between lead guitar and bass a subtle change in emphasis adds another facet to the sound. There's real music coming from "them" speakers and it's never boring for dancers and non-dancers alike.
